Supply chain management for sustainable timber procurement
- To deliver risk-free wood products to end users -
There are many causes of deforestation and degradation, including illegal logging, forest fires, and conversion to farmland, but in order to sustainably procure timber, a forest product, it is necessary to recognize these factors as risks and avoid them. However, in the case of timber, as the degree of processing increases, the supply chain becomes longer and the difficulty of managing it increases, posing a major challenge for downstream businesses.
This seminar shared information about the risks and challenges of deforestation and forest degradation across the entire supply chain, and discussed what risk avoidance methods (due diligence (DD)) are necessary for each business in the supply chain to deliver products to end users that appropriately avoid environmental and social risks that hinder sustainable forest management, through case studies of businesses that are engaged in advanced supply chain management.
