Efforts to eliminate illegal logging

Efforts to eliminate illegal logging

In response to the spread of illegal logging in developing countries, developed countries such as Europe, the United States, and Australia have introduced regulatory measures, and there is an increasing risk of illegal timber flowing into Japan. As a result, Japan has also begun to implement measures to eliminate illegal timber, such as the Clean Wood Act. In this context, we are conducting research while examining the gap between the Clean Wood Act's system and its actual implementation, the incentives (including CSR and ESG) and feasibility of private companies that handle timber to implement measures, and the awareness of general consumers, who are end users.
Additionally, in collaboration with environmental NGOs, the company has held seminars and developed guidance on due diligence.
In addition, we are also examining measures for timber distribution in Laos, a timber exporting country in Southeast Asia.
