Student Activity Report

Hello, my name is Soraho Hamaoka, a fourth-year student in the Kyushu University 21st Century Program.

I have been a member of this laboratory since the summer of my second year of undergraduate studies, and am currently conducting research on the "Guide System on Yakushima Island." In addition, I will be studying in Germany from September 2 to improve my language skills and deepen my knowledge of tropical agriculture.Baden= VWürttembergI am studying abroad at the University of Hohenheim in the state.

Three months have passed since I started studying abroad. In the first month, I was busy with various procedures such as registering for classes, registering as a resident, applying for a visa, and applying for insurance, and in the second month, I got sick and had a long cold. However, recently, my body and mind have gotten used to the environment here, so my stress has decreased considerably and I am now feeling comfortable.

I feel that it is a valuable experience to be able to feel the differences between Japan and Germany (lifestyle, how to interact with people, structure of cities and buildings, etc.) while sightseeing and living in various cities. In addition, Hohenheim University is the most famous university in Germany in the field of agriculture, so it accepts international students from various countries around the world, and I am able to connect with other international students and live a very fulfilling life.

This semester I am mainly taking language classes and spending the rest of the time working on my thesis. Next semester I plan to take a specialized course (Tropical Agriculture).
