Welcome to the hyakumura laboratory!
Hello everyone.
My name is Teng Wen, and I am a second-year master's student in the hyakumura lab.
We would like to introduce the current situation and atmosphere of our laboratory.
I think there are three attractive features of this laboratory.
First, how the seminars are conducted. The lab holds lectures and seminars in separate Japanese and English courses. All students attend seminars every week, where they present their research progress and then receive questions and comments from the professor and fellow members. The atmosphere in the seminars is very relaxed, and I think that everyone's comments will help me improve my research from multiple angles.
The second is field research. Students belong to either the Graduate School of Integrated Sciences for Global Change or the Graduate School of Environmental Sciences, and the research methodology of "field research" is emphasized. When conducting research, students travel to the field together with their professors to conduct environmental research and interview people. I think that analyzing environmental issues in Asia on one's own is also one of the attractions of this laboratory.
The third point is the atmosphere of international exchange in our lab. Our members come from many different places (Japan, China, Laos, Myanmar, Vietnam, Egypt, etc.), so when you go to the lab, it feels like you're on a trip to Asia. We've cut back a bit now because of COVID-19, but we usually have food and drink parties with people from Asian countries in the lab. Japanese yakisoba, Chinese hotpot, Laotian som tam, and Vietnamese banh mi are all delicious.
